Press Release

Herring Pairing

dry dock wine + spirits, Krogstad Aquavit and IKEA present a “Midsommar Herring Pairing”.

The event will be held on Midsommar Day Saturday, June 25th at dry dock wine + spirits, 424 Van Brunt Street, Red Hook, Brooklyn from 4 to 7pm.

Aquavit translates to “water of life”, and along with herring is an essential part of any Swedish midsommar celebration.   Krogstad Aquavit is based on a traditional Scandinavian recipe and is produced by craft distiller House Spirits Distillery of Portland, Oregon.  Krogstad Aquavit is an exceptionally balanced, toothsome spirit flavored with star anise and caraway seed.  There’s so much more to Swedish cuisine than meatballs, as you’ll discover when IKEA’s Swedish Food Market showcases their many different varieties of marinated herring. Skål!

Dry dock wine + spirits is Red Hook’s neighborhood wine and spirits store, offering outstanding value and high quality from smaller vintners, producers & importers from around the world.  OUT Magazine describes us as "beautifully edited" with over 400 hand-picked wines, including 50 choices priced $12 and under, along with an eclectic selection of hard-to-find craft distilled spirits, that includes over 75 whisk(e)y choices.  Free wine & spirits tastings weekly.

dry dock wine + sprits celebrates

Natural Winemaker Week

Friday, March 11, 2011

5:30pm to 8:30pm

French winemaker and cooperative founder, Denis Deschamps of Les Vignerons D’Estézargues, will be visiting Red Hook on Friday, March 11th from 5:30 to 8:30 for a tasting at dry dock wine + spirits.  Les Vignerons D’Estezargues, located close to Avignon, is a co-operative cellar of organic growers who focus on quality rather than quantity. Rather than combining their harvests for one big batch, the 10 individual growers each hand harvest all of their grapes and produce their own vintages, use indigenous yeast and don’t filter or fine the wines. The results are terroir driven wines that have changed the way co-ops operate. Denis, one of the co-op founders, will be pouring From the Tank, their 3 Liter boxed wine as well as some of the other single vineyard expressions from the Rhone.

Natural Winemakers’ Week is from March 3 – 12 and takes place throughout New York City with 20 different organic and biodynamic producers. For a full listing of vintners, tastings, and wine dinners go to www.jennyandfrancois.com.

Jenny & Francois Selections present natural wines from small vineyards and winemakers who approach their craft like artists. They strive to find the best wines made without yeasts made in labs, sugar, artificial flavors, acid and do without excessive filtering or sulfites.

2010 Beaujolais Nouveau Taste-Off

Friday, November 19th, 2010

5:30 to 8:30pm

Come celebrate the first release of the 2010 Beaujolais Nouveau vintage with a free taste-off Friday, November 19th, 5:30 to 8:30pm at dry dock wine + spirits

In one corner, Kermit Lynch Wine Merchants’ offering of Damien Dupeuble’s 2010 vintage will be ready for sipping, while in the other corner, Louis Dressner Imports will bring their Terres Dorees Beaujolais Nouveau to the ring for a flavor square-off.  This pair of producers was chosen because of their use of traditional wine making techniques such as hand harvesting, the use of indigenous yeasts and the absence of sulphur dioxide added to the fermentation process.  This is a rare opportunity to taste the first vintage of the season from two esteemed producers side by side.

From France, Beaujolais Nouveau is the first young wine of the new vintage year that is enjoyed in the autumn. Winemakers rush to pick, press and bottle the grapes in time for the release on the third Thursday every November.  The tradition is to share the new harvest with friends and family during the holiday season, especially with the Thanksgiving meal.
